Zoom Setup Guide
Get Zoom ready for your Tech Tails classes in just a few minutes.

Download & Install Zoom
Zoom is free. Visit zoom.us/download and click Zoom Workplace.
Windows
- Run the downloaded installer and follow the prompts.
- Open Zoom once installation is complete.
Mac
- Open the .pkg file and follow the installation steps.
- If prompted, allow Zoom in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Join Your Class
You'll get a Zoom link in your class reminder email before each session.
- Click the Zoom link in your reminder email.
- Choose Open Zoom when your browser asks.
- Enter the meeting passcode if provided.
- Click Join with Video.
Tip: Join 2–3 minutes early to make sure everything works.

Enable Screen Sharing
Screen sharing lets your instructor see your code and guide you in real time.
Windows
- In Zoom, click your profile icon > Settings.
- Go to the Share Screen tab.
- Make sure screen sharing is enabled.
Mac
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
- Toggle Zoom on, then restart Zoom.

Basic Zoom Controls
Mute / Unmute — Toggle your microphone.
Start / Stop Video — Turn your camera on or off.
Share Screen — Show your work to the instructor.
Chat — Send messages during class.
Reactions — Raise your hand or send emoji.
Leave Meeting — Red button when class is over.

Tips for a Great Class
Find a quiet space with minimal distractions.
Use headphones to reduce echo.
Wired internet is best for stability.
Close unnecessary apps before class.
Keep your camera on so the instructor can engage.
Have water nearby and take breaks when needed.
