AI & Machine Learning Classes
Explore the future of technology with hands-on AI and machine learning projects!
About This Class
Students will be introduced to AI concepts and tools, learning how artificial intelligence works and how to use it creatively. From AI-assisted creation and programming to machine learning basics, students gain emerging tech literacy that prepares them for the future of technology.
Tech Tails' AI classes for kids give students ages 9 and up a hands-on, 1-on-1 introduction to how artificial intelligence actually works, not just how to use it. In live weekly Zoom sessions, a dedicated instructor guides students through real projects: writing Python code, training a simple model, and experimenting with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion to see how machines generate text and images.
Rather than abstract lectures, each session is built around something the student wants to make, whether that's a chatbot themed on a favorite book series or an image classifier trained on photos of their own pets. As students progress, they move from using existing AI tools toward Python programming and machine learning basics with frameworks like TensorFlow and Google Colab.

What You'll Learn
AI fundamentals
Machine learning basics
AI-assisted creation
Prompt engineering
Emerging tech literacy
What they can build
Examples. Every student's path is built around their own interests.
A themed chatbot
Use Python and tools like ChatGPT or Claude to build a chatbot that answers questions about a topic the student picks, like a favorite book series or hobby.
An image classifier
Train a simple model in Google Colab or TensorFlow to tell two things apart in photos, such as identifying different dog breeds or plant types.
An AI-generated art series
Experiment with Midjourney, DALL-E, or Stable Diffusion to generate and refine images around a theme, learning how prompt wording changes the result.
A short AI-assisted video clip
Use RunwayML to turn still images or simple prompts into short video clips, exploring how generative video tools work alongside traditional editing.
A text generator with personality
Work with Hugging Face or ChatGPT to build a tool that writes in a specific style, like poems, jokes, or a chosen character's voice.
A simple prediction project
Write Python code that uses a small dataset, like weather or sports stats, to make basic predictions, learning core machine learning concepts hands-on.
How Your Student Progresses
- 1
Getting started
New students begin with AI fundamentals: what artificial intelligence actually is, how machines learn from examples, and hands-on experiments with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Midjourney. Alongside this, they start learning basic Python, the programming language used throughout the rest of the curriculum, through small, guided exercises rather than dense syntax lessons.
- 2
Building skills
Students begin writing more of their own Python code and start working in Google Colab, training simple models on datasets they help choose. They explore image generation tools like DALL-E and Stable Diffusion more deeply, and start to understand the difference between using an AI tool and building one.
- 3
Going further
Advanced students work with frameworks like TensorFlow and Hugging Face to train and adjust their own models, and explore emerging tools like RunwayML for generative video. At this stage, instructors also introduce responsible AI use, and help motivated students shape a project into a portfolio piece for school or personal interest.

AI & Machine Learning FAQ
What age can my child start learning AI?
Tech Tails' AI and machine learning classes are designed for students ages 9 and up, since the curriculum builds on basic Python programming. Younger students who want to explore technology concepts earlier are often better suited to our coding classes first, which build the programming foundation AI projects rely on.
Does my child need coding experience before AI classes?
Some coding background helps but isn't required. Instructors introduce basic Python alongside AI concepts from the first sessions, so a motivated beginner can pick up both together. Students who already know some Python or JavaScript from our coding classes will move into hands-on AI projects, like training a model, more quickly.
What AI tools will my child actually use?
Depending on the project, students work with tools like ChatGPT and Claude for language projects, Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion for image generation, and Python with TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or Google Colab for building and training models. The instructor selects tools based on the student's age, interests, and current skill level.
Is it safe for my child to use AI tools like ChatGPT during class?
Yes. All AI classes are live, 1-on-1 sessions on Zoom with a dedicated instructor guiding every interaction, so tool use is supervised and purposeful rather than open-ended browsing. Instructors also cover responsible and thoughtful use of AI tools as part of the curriculum for older students.
Will my child learn to build AI, or just use existing AI apps?
Both, depending on their level. Early sessions focus on using tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney to understand what AI can do. As students progress, they move into Python programming and frameworks like TensorFlow to train their own simple models, gaining a real understanding of how AI systems are built.
